Planning upgrades in a condo

Start with the building rules and the complete installation scope.

Get the current requirements

Ask your building manager or association for its renovation process, permitted working hours, contractor documentation and any product or acoustic requirements. Rules differ by building; get the requirements for yours in writing.

Identify shared systems

Plumbing, ventilation, structure, fire protection and exterior openings may involve building systems. Tell the provider what is known and ask who is responsible for coordinating access, shutdowns and approvals.

Plan logistics early

Discuss lift bookings, loading, parking, protection of common areas, material storage and disposal. These details can affect duration and cost even when the work inside the unit seems small.

Keep proof of the work

Retain product specifications, approvals, installation records and warranties. For flooring, confirm the complete assembly rather than assuming an underlay label alone satisfies the building requirement.
