Budgeting and phasing your upgrades

Use a clear ceiling and an honest scope.

Separate the numbers

Distinguish your available budget, a provider estimate and an accepted fixed scope. Our planning tools organize the numbers you enter; they do not calculate a market price or replace a site assessment.

Budget for the complete job

Consider design, assessment, products, labour, preparation, protection, disposal, finishing, applicable tax and any approvals relevant to the work. Ask which figures are allowances and what could change them.

Choose the order deliberately

Investigate water, structural or service problems before cosmetic finishes. Group work where access or trade visits overlap. Avoid finishing a surface that the next planned phase will need to open.

Reserve flexibility

Choose a contingency that fits the age, condition and uncertainty of your project. Keep optional upgrades separate. If quotes exceed the ceiling, reduce the first-phase scope rather than relying on an assumed saving or future rebate.
